The first train appeared in the year 1804 as a revolutionary design that succeeded to pull 25 tons of iron material and 70 people over the distance of 10 miles. (Wow!) Throughout the next two centuries, trains have been powered by steam, diesel fuel, electricity and even horses walking on treadmills!

And as National Train Day (May 7) approaches, I wanted to highlight what is fast becoming Florida’s next best means of public transportation and exploration – Brightline!

Currently, the Brightline service runs from West Palm Beach to Miami with the option to stop in Fort Lauderdale. Each Brightline train is composed of two diesel-electric locomotives and four stainless-steel coaches that can reach maximum speeds of up to 120mph. A one-way train ticket from West Palm to Miami now ranges from $15 to $22 for standard service, depending on the time of the day. Wi-Fi, food and beverage and upgrades are also available.

Brightline has announced plans to expand and open stations into the Miami Port, Aventura, Disney World and even Tampa by 2028. The expansion of Brightline into major cities will allow residents – especially in Palm Beach County – to explore and enjoy all that South Florida has to offer in a safe and efficient means of transportation.
