2019 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday

May 30, 2019

Hurricane season is officially here!  We’ve been so busy enjoying the extended spring we’ve had here in South Florida that many of us have forgotten the upcoming June 1st debut for Florida’s annual hurricane season.

Every year, I remind you to start putting together your hurricane supply kits NOW! Don’t wait until the storm is on the way or when it gets an official name – you’re already late to the game if you do!

Why have to rush to the store just to rummage through empty shelves and stand in endless lines for last minute needs? Prepare now! You’ll have enough to do around your home with physical preparations, you shouldn’t be worrying about if you have enough batteries, tarp coverings, water or pet food.

And thanks to a new law passed by Governor Ron DeSantis, you will be given an incentive during the first week of June to start your hurricane preparations! The 2019 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday relieves you from sales tax on qualifying items related to disaster preparedness such as candles, flashlights, generators, batteries, tarps, tie-down kits and more.

The sales tax holiday begins Friday, May 31, 2019 and extends through Thursday, June 6, 2019. All information regarding this bill and items that qualify can be found on the Florida Department of Revenue website: http://floridarevenue.com/DisasterPrep.
